The Belgians have found the way to Egypt for Christmas holidays

The Belgians have found the way to Egypt for Christmas holidays
The Belgians have returned to Egyptian seaside resorts like Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada on Christmas holidays after a catastrophic year 2015, according to figures provided by the tour operator TUI on Monday.

A good 10% of holidaymakers will indeed go to Egypt, thus allowing the country to again be part of the top 10 favorite destinations of the Belgians.

The Egyptian tourist sector experienced a catastrophic year 2015. Political instability has plagued the sector for several years and this trend has been further reinforced after the explosion of a Russian airliner over the Sinai desert. The attack killed 224 people.

The tour operators TUI and Thomas Cook had suspended their flights between Brussels and Sinai. Tui resumed his flights last October to Sharm el-Sheikh while Thomas Cook had resumed flight to the area since the summer.

TUI has also found, according to its own words, a renewed interest in the Red Sea. "Many more tourists have booked a stay in Sharm el-Sheikh or Hurghada because of the restored calm and excellent value for money of Egyptian luxury hotels," the press release said.

The Belgian is also considering the holidays of the end of the year with confidence. Spain is thus the number one destination this winter. More than half of the tourists have chosen for this holiday the Canary Islands and Tenerife in particular. The top 5 destinations are complemented by the islands of Cape Verde, Gran Canaria, Cancun and Punta Cana (Mexico) as well as the Dominican Republic.

Finally, most Belgian tourists plan to leave during the first week of the holiday season.
