1. Make sure you are legally entitled to rent a vehicle at the airport
First of all, you must hold a driver's license that has points that are not subject to a temporary suspension. But that's not all. Young drivers (who are also the main passenger car rental companies) are not all allowed to rent a car and must follow, if necessary, the commercial rules set up by the lessor.
Generally, under 25 years, the driver will have to pay a young driver surcharge while the minimum legal age to drive a rental car is 21 years. Ask the signs at the airport about their general conditions of sale vis-à-vis young drivers.
2. Do not rent more at the last moment!
It is obviously a (bad) habit taken by travelers to rent his car at the last moment. In some cases, it is difficult to do otherwise, but it is 48 hours after the vehicle is taken that prices start to climb and the holiday budget climbs accordingly! A single word, anticipate or try your luck a few hours before your arrival to find any last minute balances. Who knows, maybe a DeLorean or a Mustang will be available for hire.
3. Require a copy of the registration card when the vehicle is taken over by the rental company
In the case of a short-term rental, the car rental company owns the vehicle. It is therefore the holder of the registration certificate containing the name and address of the lessee.
This means that no information about the renter of the car will appear on the gray card but does not mean in any way that you can do anything! The rental agency obviously takes precautions and in case of speeding, forced passage to a customs, attempted cascades and failed slips you will have to pay the pots broken!
Obviously, we recommend you to go with the copy of the gray card to avoid any misunderstandings with the authorities.
4. Define your need to choose the right vehicle
What use will you make of the rental vehicle? Tourism for a short distance? A road trip on Route 66 or the Tundra? With each stay his model of car. Choosing a rental car requires a good definition of the needs.
Determine in advance the number of kilometers you will be traveling during your stay and do not hesitate to invest a few euros more to have a comfortable car in case you find yourself out of gas in the middle of the Valley of Death or Siberia. It's more fun to sleep in a Confluence than in a 4L.

5. Make the car full and clean!
If you have opted for the service to be provided by the hirer then do not refuel. Conversely if the service is not taken into account, refuel at the risk of seeing the fare doubled at the reception of the vehicle! Clean your car if it's too dirty and watch out for the cigarette! Check in the contract that you can smoke in the vehicle, because if the agency detects the pleasant smell of cold smoke emanating from suede seats, cleaning will be charged ...
