Contrary to what the start-up of the sector, income that owners derive from this activity are less. Or nonexistent.



The speech is well tested: rent a car that is only occasionally used, it is the possibility of obtaining additional income that allows the owner to break even. That myth cleverly qu'entretiennent startups hire vehicles between individuals, or as Drivy OuiCar. Yet the reality is very different, far from the promised savings.

Two students of the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE) conducted a study, published on the blog of sharing and collaborative Sharinblog consumption from public data of the three main French sites rental ( Drivy, Buzzcar and OuiCar). And the conclusion is clear: the rental of a vehicle owner is a fake good plan. The study thus shows that more than one vehicle on two ... has never been rented and therefore never reported anything to its owner. And 47% of available vehicles report less 350 euros per month, the average cost of a vehicle that you own. In the end, only 2% of vehicles on these ad sites allow their owners to obtain additional income ...

The acclaimed urban
That the owners of a car or van are not discouraged, some "tricks" may, however, allow them to hold their own game. It is thus better to reside in an urban area or a tourist department hoped to rent a vehicle : the Paris region, Corsica and the Hérault squatting the first five places in the ranking of the most active departments. "The most important criterion is the rental location and the price," notes Andy Bruère, co-author of the study. Similarly, a Polo or Yaris will rent more easily than a utility, urban women alone accounting for half of the transactions.

This study does put a spoke in the car rental sites wheels between individuals? Nothing is less certain. The French sector leader, Drivy, announced last month a fundraising of € 8 million and the redemption Buzzcar, one of its competitors.
