Dream Downtown: cocktails at the pool

Dream Downtown: cocktails at the pool
This is one of the best pools of Manhattan located in a sunny courtyard open from morning to night, it is surrounded by exotic trees and a mini "beach" with real sand. The perfect place to escape the absolute, even when we are surrounded by skyscrapers and the constant hooting of
sirens New York. Its glass bottom allows swimmers to see the hotel lobby ... and newcomers to wonder even before actually checking in. But if you like the Dream Downtown, not only for its idyllic pool, but also for its facade of steel and its porthole-shaped windows -the original building, built in 1966, was only slightly reworked by Handel Architects office. And for its rooms, whose decoration is inspired by Andy Warhol's Factory where concrete floors and chrome beds mingle with patchwork rugs, teak furniture and antique leather chairs -some of them even include a small terrace with direct access to the pool.

The "Dream" is also known for its sparkling nightlife: for if during the day the hotel is the perfect place for a zen break in the evening it turns into one of the favorite places for New Yorkers to see and be seen. At the Bodega Negra -filiale the famous and highly confidential Mexican restaurant born in London-that celebs love for his artisanal mezcal selection. Or at the Electric Room, a British-inspired underground bar -on love Chesterfield sofas to Union Jacks- grounds where sip whiskey while listening to 1960s rock Or to PH-D, the club on terrace of the hotel where it is almost impossible to please the physio-except if your name appears on IMDB, the Who's Who of film, or if you are dressed entirely in Céline- but where the view of the city is ... just a dream.

355 W 16th Street, New York, + 1-212-229-2559, www.dreamhotels.com/downtown. Room from 480 euros per night.
